    Original Lifetime Lithograph

    Wassily Kandinsky

    Russian, 1866–1944

    Comètes (Comets)

    1938

Atelier Mourlot • Verve, Paris • Lifetime Edition
    Historic Modernist Masterpiece
Printed by Atelier Mourlot Frères, Paris

An extraordinary original color lithograph created by Wassily Kandinsky in 1938 for Verve, the legendary French art publication founded by Tériade. Executed during the artist's lifetime as part of a groundbreaking collaborative suite dedicated to celestial bodies alongside André Masson, this composition highlights Kandinsky’s late Parisian biomorphic abstraction and cosmic spiritualism.

    Sheet Size: 10.43 × 13.78 in (26.5 × 35 cm)
Medium: Original color lithograph on wove paper
Signature: Signed with the artist's monogram 'VK' and dated '38' in the stone lower left
Printer / Publisher: Printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris; Published by Tériade for Verve (1938)
    Literature & Documentation:
    • Anthonioz, M., Verve: The Ultimate Review of Art and Literature (1937–1960), Abrams, N.Y., 1988, pp. 55–56, 387.
    • Derouet, C., Œuvres de Vassily Kandinsky: Collections du Musée national d’art moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, 1984, p. 359, No. 9.

Condition: Excellent original condition with vibrant, saturated color registration. Full margins as issued.

In Kandinsky's contribution to the 1938 celestial suite, he created two monumental abstract visions: Comètes (Comets), set against the absolute pitch dark of the universe, and Étoiles (Stars), evoking the radiant organic structure of the Andromeda Galaxy. Set on a deep midnight-black background, Comètes showcases dynamic geometric energy, vibrant biomorphic shapes, and glowing orbital arcs.

An exceptional museum-grade acquisition for collectors of early 20th-century Avant-Garde graphics and original lifetime printmaking history.

    Guaranteed authentic original lifetime lithograph.
