Ernst Neizvestny - Bronze sculpture "The Stride" ("Torso"), 1960

A 20th Century Modernist bronze art statue of Ernst Neizvestny (Russian, 1925-2016). Work features an abstract form, modeled with exaggerated legs and other features. Surmounting a rectangular wood base. Faded hand inscribed letter to underside. 

Dimensions: 13 (with base) / 11 1/2 (without base) X 9.5 X 3.75 in.  (33 x 24 x 9.5 cm)
Weight with base: 11.6 lb (5.25 kg)

The sculpture was created in 1960.

Condition: Good overall condition having normal to mild age related surface wear and patina.  

The same bronze sculpture by Ernst Neizvestny was sold at Christie's in 2006 (LOT 914, 11 Jan 2006). 

The sculpture was published in the book "Art and revolution: Ernst Neizvestny and the role of the artist in the U.S.S.R". – January 1, 1969 by John Berger.

In the book, the sculpture is called The Stride. However, in the Grosvenor Gallery documents there is a different name - Torso.

The sculpture is presented in the photo of Ernst Neizvestny with the leader of the USSR Nikita Khrushchev.

PROVENANCE

Acquired from the artist by Eric Estorick of the Grosvenor Gallery in the 1960s.
