Louisiana poster with the work, Mt. Fuji and flowers, (1972) , published in connection with the exhibition, David Hockney - Painting 1960-2000, at Louisiana in 2001-2002.
David Hockney (b. 1937) is one of Britain`s most influential artists of the 20th century and was central to the 60s pop art scene in London. He is extremely well known among many guests at Louisiana, where he has exhibited several times. David Hockney is loved by many for his ability to touch the ordinary - that which the world mostly consists of. He likes to let it float a bit, so that we become involved, because Hockney both offers a motif and that we ourselves get involved in processing the scene.
In 2007, Louisiana acquired David Hockney`s giant painting A Closer Grand Canyon (1998), consisting of 60 smaller canvases assembled into one large picture – a work which has since become an absolute masterpiece in the collection. Today, David Hockney lives in Normandy, where he constantly experiments with materials and captures local moods with his fantastic line and sure sense of color.
